This is totally normal! Engaging in therapy can be a huge step. The first session will be focused on getting to know you, answering any questions or concerns you may have and setting goals together. There’s no pressure to know everything you want to work on in therapy, you and your psychologist will collaborate on this.

Absolutely! If you feel more comfortable to have your parents with you, especially for the first session, you’re more than welcome to. If you are a parent of a child 8 years old or younger, a parent-only session without your child present is mandatory for the first session. This is to ensure background information and any important points can be discussed without your child feeling pressure to speak on sensitive topics or overhear anything potentially distressing.

This is totally normal! Don’t worry, your psychologist can guide as little or as much as you need, asking questions that may be relevant or spend time getting to know you as a person.

Yes, we offer Telehealth Australia-wide via Microsoft Teams. Sessions can be entirely online, a mixture of in-person and online, or entirely in-person. Which ever option works best for you.

If you have not provided your/your child’s Mental Health Care Plan or NDIS plan (if you are utilising these) with your intake and consent form, you will need to bring this to your first session. Otherwise, there is nothing in particular you need to bring, however you are welcome to bring anything that may help you to feel more comfortable (i.e., a comfort toy, favourite fidget, drink bottle etc) or a notebook if you would like to take notes. There are fidgets and water (and tea!) available for your use while you are in the space too.

Soulful Psychology and Wellness does not provide services through WorkCover, Open Arms referrals or agency-managed NDIS plans. There may be some specific presentations that might be better suited for specialised interventions and support. Soulful Psychology and Wellness will discuss this further with you if relevant after you complete a contact form.
